The Story of The Arts Junction
More than just a building, The Arts Junction is the creative heart of Katikati.
Located on Main Road in the town centre, the facility has become a focal point for culture, community engagement, and visitor services. Managed by Katch Katikati, The Arts Junction is home to a range of services that celebrate the people, stories, and creativity of our region.
For visitors arriving in Katikati, the Information Centre is often their first introduction to the area. Friendly staff and volunteers provide local knowledge, travel advice, maps, and information about the many attractions that make Katikati unique, from its internationally recognised murals and public art to scenic walking tracks, cycleways, and natural attractions throughout the Western Bay of Plenty.
The Arts Junction also serves as a showcase for local creativity. The Carlton Gallery, run by Open Air Art which hosts a changing programme of exhibitions throughout the year, providing opportunities for artists to share their work while giving residents and visitors access to a diverse range of artistic expression. Alongside the gallery, The Little Gift Shop which features locally made products and New Zealand-inspired souvenirs, supporting local makers and celebrating regional talent.
At the centre of the facility is the Junction Theatre, a lively venue that hosts movies, live performances, community events, music, theatre productions, and special presentations. These events bring people together, foster community spirit, and contribute to the rich cultural life of Katikati.
Under the leadership of Katch Katikati, The Arts Junction continues to evolve as a welcoming space where creativity flourishes, visitors are inspired, and community connections are strengthened. It reflects the values that make Katikati unique: a strong sense of community, a passion for the arts, and a genuine commitment to creating memorable experiences for everyone who walks through its doors.
Today, The Arts Junction remains a cornerstone of community life, proudly promoting local arts, supporting tourism, and providing a space where people can come together to celebrate everything that makes Katikati such an exceptional place to live, work, and visit.
