Project Parore
Project Parore is the trading name for Uretara Estuary Managers Incorporated, a Katikati-based society formed in 2004 to help clean up the rivers and streams running into the Uretara Estuary and bring back the native birds.
Project Parore has since expanded its mission to enhance environmental stewardship, protect streams and restore biodiversity across all river catchments of north of the Wairoa river, to Waihi Beach.
Objectives
Partnering with our community and our local councils to restore, enhance, and protect our natural environment - reconnecting ecosystems and people. To achieve this, we focus on:
- CONNECTIONS
Improve awareness, understanding and appreciation of our natural environment amongst all the people in our community, encouraging collective stewardship of, and responsibility to, nature.
- ECOSYSTEM HEALTH AND RESILIENCE
Collaborate with industry to support and reinforce requirements for best practice land use management, safeguarding future productivity.
- RESTORATION AND PROTECTION
Partner with landowners to protect and restore indigenous habitat, freshwater and estuarine ecosystems across the landscape to improve biodiversity and community outcomes from hills to harbour.
How to Help
We have a skilled, professional team available for mitigation and restoration works, including native planting projects and pest plant control.
Landowners and residents both rural and urban can also get involved – volunteer to help with planting, trapping pests or removing weed species, citizen science that monitors biodiversity and water quality, or get in touch to discuss how the project could support restoration and environmental protection work on your property or in your local catchment community.
Within Katikati itself, we support the Renaturing Katikati volunteers who are working on river banks and reserves around the town, and in our nursery at 48 Church Street.
