# The Question K9andKats Answered
It started with a question I couldn't answer. A pet owner picking up their dog after boarding with me asked if I knew a good local groomer. A few weeks later, someone asked about trainers in the area. Then someone else wanted a regular dog walker. Every time, I found myself saying the same thing: I'm not sure, sorry, you'll have to search around.
It was a small moment, repeated often enough that it started to feel like something bigger. Here were people who cared deeply about their pets, looking for products and services they could trust, with no easy place to find them. So, when the chance came up to re-love an unused website, I rebuilt it, and K9andKats online pet directory was born on Valentine's Day 2025.
K9andKats.co.nz is now a New Zealand pet directory where businesses can list and pet owners can search freely. It covers dogs and cats, bringing groomers, trainers, walkers, sitters and boarding facilities, together with newer additions like events, and the Petlife Resources category, built for the pet related services that don't fit a traditional listing but still deserve to be found.
A year on, the directory is growing across the country. Grooming, training and boarding remain the most searched categories. Dog Walking Tracks has become one of the most popular tabs on the website, a reminder that pet owners aren't just looking for products and services, they're also looking for experiences to share with their animals.
None of that growth has changed what the directory is really about. It's still guided by the same question that started it all: how do I make it easier for a pet owner to find someone, and for pet businesses to be found. That focus shapes everything, from how listings are organised, to the missing pets and educational content shared each week on social media.
There is more ahead. New free resources for pet owners, partnerships with trusted New Zealand pet rescues, and a growing list of businesses across the country all sit on the horizon. The goal hasn't moved since the beginning: to be the most useful place for New Zealand pet owners to find what their animals need, and for good pet businesses to be found by the people already looking for them.
It started with a question. I'm glad I answered it.
